Friday 27 March 2009 (0945) – Looking towards Cressbrook from Monsal Head. Look for the bus! It was Hulley’s of Baslow 2 (P881 PWW) which can be seen on the valley floor prior to making the ascent up to where I was taking the photograph. It was working the 0930 hrs Tideswell to Bakewell service 173. Only two 173 buses per day travelled this road in each direction, the others (five of them) travelled via the B6465 and Wardlow. The bus was a Plaxton Pointer bodied Dennis Dart new to Clarksons of South Elmsall in February 1997. The next photograph shows the bus arriving at the top of the climb.

Friday 27 March 2009 (0946) – Almost at the top of the climb to Monsal Head on the road from Cressbrook, Hulley’s of Baslow 2 (P881 PWW) was working the 0930 hrs Tideswell to Bakewell service 173. Only two 173 buses per day travelled this road in each direction, the others (five of them) travelled via the B6465 (the road in the background) and Wardlow. A Plaxton Pointer bodied Dennis Dart new to Clarksons of South Elmsall in February 1997.

Friday 27 March 2009 (0947) – Henry Hulley of Baslow 2 (P881 PWW), a Plaxton Pointer bodied Dennis Dart new to Clarksons of South Elmsall in February 1997, had just reached the summit at Monsal Head on the road from Cressbrook, when working the 0930 hrs Tideswell to Bakewell service 173. Only two 173 buses per day travelled this road in each direction, the others (five of them) travelled via the B6465 (the road in the background) and Wardlow.

Thursday 26 March 2009 (0735) – Hulley’s of Baslow 17 (M802 PRA), an Optare Vecta new to Trent in October 1994, working the 0723 hrs Tideswell to Bakewell service 173. Seen from the stairs inside Ruskins Guest House (now Cliffe House) at Monsal Head, Little Longstone.

Thursday 26 March 2009 (0817) – Henry Hulley of Baslow 17 (M802 PRA), an Optare Vecta new to Trent in October 1994, seen in Tideswell on service 173. It had worked the 0747 journey from Bakewell arriving at 0815 and is about to work the 0818 return.

Wednesday 25 March 2009 (1054) – Henry Hulley of Baslow 17 (M802 PRA), an Optare Vecta new to Trent in October 1994. Seen in the main square in Bakewell having arrived at 1040 as the 1005 service 177 from Buxton.

It is a Plaxton Beaver bodied Mercedes-Benz Vario that had been new October 1997 to Trent Buses.

Saturday 28 March 2009 (0946) – Henry Hulley of Baslow 9 (R280 RAU), a Plaxton Beaver bodied Mercedes-Benz Vario that had been new October 1997 to Trent Buses, had just reached the summit at Monsal Head having made the climb up the road from Cressbrook when working the 0930 hrs Tideswell to Bakewell service 173. Only two 173 buses per day travel this road in each direction, the others (five of them) travel via Wardlow and the B6465 which crosses in the background.

Wednesday 25 March 2009 (1055) – Henry Hulley of Baslow 11 (N360 VRC) seen in the main square at Bakewell about to work the 1055 service to Shutts Lane, a mere five minute trip to a residential area off Monyash Road which involves a hilly climb. It is an Optare Sigma bodied Dennis Lance new to Trent Buses (360) in November 1995.

Wednesday 25 March 2009 (1054) – Henry Hulley of Baslow 11 (N360 VRC) seen in the main square at Bakewell about to work the 1055 service to Shutts Lane, a mere five minute trip to a residential area off Monyash Road which involves a hilly climb. Wednesday 25 March 2009 (1051) – Henry Hulley of Baslow 7 (Y293 HUA), a Wright Cadet bodied DAF new in April 2001 to Teamdeck (K-Line), seen in Matlock Street, Bakewell arriving on the 1025 service 171 from Hartington.

Tuesday 24 March 2009 (1459) – Henry Hulley of Baslow 1 (MX06 ACV), an Optare Solo new in March 2006, seen in Causeway Lane, Matlock. Note the shelter in the park on the left which is from another transport era. It was once located in Crown Square (behind the parked vans in the background) from where the cable hauled tramcars ascended Bank Road.

To the left is bus 17 (M802 PRA), an Optare Vecta new to Trent in October 1994, which had arrived as the 1205 service 173 from Bakewell.
