Tuesday 18 May 2021 (1214) – The developer of a new housing project at Marham Park on the west side of Bury St. Edmunds is funding a demand responsive minibus service exclusively for residents. The ‘Marham Park Flyer’ links the development with any point in a designated area of Bury St. Edmunds, broadly speaking within the town boundary. Bookings can be made via an app or by telephoning the booking office. When registering, new residents qualify for a number of credits enabling free travel after which single fares will then be charged (Start-up fares are Adult £2.50, Child £1.75 and Concession £2.00). Due to the Covid-19 restrictions the service saw a number of delayed start dates but finally got up and running on Monday 10 May 2021. Vehicles are operated by The Voluntary Network, a registered charity which provides community transport in West Suffolk. The charity has worked on the Suffolk County Council supported ‘Connecting Communities’service for some years, a demand responsive service serving areas where traditional bus services do not exist. Two vehicles are seen waiting clients at Marham Park Square amidst ongoing building work. WA70 ELO, a Peugeot Boxer registered in late 2020, and SJ69 EXZ, a Mellor bodied Fiat registered in early 2021.

An excellent quality A4 size information card provides details of the service. It shows the names of transport consultants Mayer Brown, the mini-bus operator The Voluntary Network and the developer Countryside Properties.
