D J Coaches, Fordham

Early September 1983 - D J Coaches (Fordham) 111 BVE seen on a school bus working in North Terrace, Mildenhall. It was a Duple Super Vega bodied Bedford SB5 that had been new to Kenzies Coaches of Shepreth in August 1962, acquired by D J in June 1978. When I first came to Mildenhall in 1979 there was a bus stop sign on the pole behind the coach. First the sign disappeared then at some future date the pole was taken away and the bus stop was no more. No one even thinks about it anymore I suppose.

Friday 23 March 1990 - DJ Coaches (Jeffrey) of Fordham, Cambridge 111 BVE seen at the Fordham premises. It was a Duple Super Vega bodied Bedford SB5 that had been new to Kenzie’s Coaches of Shepreth in August 1962.

Saturday 2 July 1988 – DJ Coaches (Jeffrey) of Fordham, Cambridge MJF 802P seen loading pupils at Mildenhall Upper School for the 1988 Camp Trip to Brockenhurst in the New Forest. My elder daughter was passing her suitcase into the coach. It was a Duple Dominant bodied Bedford YRT that had been new to Wood of Wigston in March 1976.

Saturday 2 July 1988 – DJ Coaches (Jeffrey) of Fordham, Cambridge MJF 802P seen loading pupils at Mildenhall Upper School for the 1988 Camp Trip to Brockenhurst in the New Forest. It was a Duple Dominant bodied Bedford YRT that had been new to Wood of Wigston in March 1976.

February 1990 – DJ Coaches of Fordham, Cambridgeshire BTX 718V seen in Barton Mills. It was a Plaxton Supreme bodied Ford R1114 new in November 1979 to Waddon of Carphilly, South Wales. It had previously been with Steve MacKenzie of West Row, near Mildenhall.

Friday 23 March 1990 - DJ Coaches (Jeffrey) of Fordham, Cambridge GCK 431W, a Duple Dominant bodied Leyland Leopard that had been new to Fishwick of Leyland in January 1981. It was seen by St. Mary’s Church in Barton Mills working a morning school contract.

Sunday 6 August 1989 - West Row Coach Services had recently acquired TND 418X which was later painted in their colours of red, white and black. A Plaxton Supreme bodied DAF MB200 that had been new to Jacksons/Shearings of Altrincham in May 1982. It had previously been operated by D J Coaches of Fordham and then Steve MacKenzie of West Row before passing to WRCS.

Tuesday 10 May 1994 (0750) – D J Coaches of Fordham, Cambridgeshire B215 JHH seen awaiting school children in Fred Archer Way, Newmarket. A Plaxton Paramount 3500 bodied Scania KC112 that had been new in January 1985 to Irving’s Coaches of Carlisle. The pink and lilac livery layout was similar to the two tone blue layout employed on D J’s front line Van Hool Acron.

Sunday 18 December 1994 – D J Coaches (Jeffrey’s) of Fordham, Cambridgeshire was operating this former P & D Tours Van Hool Acron T815 integral PDT 448. P & D was based in Kirtling near Newmarket, a one coach business I believe. Seen by Mildenhall Court House driven by Mrs. Jeffrey. The coach was new in February 1984 as A850 UGB to Surrey International (Syway) Coaches of Cranleigh in whose colours it wears.
