On board Whippet Coaches WG120 (MX23 LSC) in Cambridge - 18 Oct 2023 (P1160881)

Wednesday 18 October 2023 (1106) – The ‘Universal’ bus service in Cambridge, provided by the University of Cambridge and operated by Whippet Coaches, had originally commenced in July 2016. In September 2023 it was re-launched with the delivery to Whippet Coaches of nine Mellor Sigma 12 electric buses.

The nine new buses carry fleet numbers WG112-120 with registrations MX23 LCU/V/W; MX23 LRO/U/V/Y/Z/LSC although cherished registrations were soon applied to WG112 (UN14 BUS) and WG113 (UN14 CAM).

This interior view on board WG120 (MX23 LSC) was taken on Grange Road and shows the passenger information screen outlining the bus stops ahead. This was the 1016 departure running about 22 minutes late.

Our driver had to slow down due to a construction truck blocking our side of the road but a colleague driving towards us held back to let us through. (See PiP photo in photo!! - and this caption for same: A little fun between two drivers!! Whilst travelling along Grange Road our driver encountered a roadworks lorry parked ahead on our side of the road. One of his colleagues travelling towards us stopped his bus and waved our driver through what was quite a narrow gap on the wrong side of the road. Note how the approaching driver jokingly covered his face as our bus crept towards him! See in the mirror our driver is amused at the reaction. Great spirit between the two drivers.
