HBM and a good week
HBM, enjoy the day. Herb
HBM and have a good week ahead
I did a little exercise to see what runs the two coaches in the photograph did that day and the days either side. This was to see if the turnround times were of a short duration where a delay would have any serious knock on effect on the later runs. (As I found out the info I thought it worth adding it to the text above).
It didn’t really prove much! The tightest turnround was, as it happened, that for coach 301 in the photo. It was due to arrive at Victoria at 1650 and it then worked the 1800 back to Manchester. So, it could be said that using the Toll route in that case had the benefit of aiding prompt running to ensure the turnround worked.
Fuel costs would be the same using either route unless the coach was stuck in a traffic jam around Birmingham. The advertised cost for a coach on the Toll route is £14.30 but I suppose National Express will some get discount.
I think the answer is that paying something like £12 to use the toll gives operational benefits.
