Ipswich Buses 229 (K100 LCT) in Ely – 21 May 1995 (266-12)

Ipswich Buses 229 (K100 LCT) in Ely – 21 May 1995 (266-12)
Sunday 21 May 1995 – On board Ipswich Buses 229 (K100 LCT) about to depart Market Street, Ely when working the 1836 service 156 to Ipswich which was part of the Suffolk County Council supported ‘Sunday Bus’ network (which also ran on Bank Holiday Mondays).

The County Councils of East Anglia (Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire Essex and Hertfordshire) subsidised networks of Sunday services to enable people to make day trips to the countryside, seaside and other places leisure interest. The purchase of a Sunday Rover Ticket then allowed journeys to be made without further payment on whatever buses were used.

The vehicle is an Optare MetroRider that was new to Lancaster City Transport (ML1) in September 1992. Lancaster City Transport ceased trading in August 1993 and this dual purpose vehicle was then acquired by Ipswich. It retained the registration containing the initials LCT. Ipswich Buses names all its buses and this one pays homage to its origins carrying the name ‘Lancastrian’.
