Eastern Counties RL686 (DRX 630K) and VR261 (RAH 261W) at Barrow outstation - June 1983
Saturday evening 4 June 1983 – For a time the last Eastern Counties Omnibus Company service 974 from Bury St Edmunds to Mildenhall (approx. 1745) was covered by Barrow outstation rather than Mildenhall outstation.
In this view, taken at the Barrow outstation we see VR261 (RAH 261W) which had just run empty back from Mildenhall. RL686 (DRX 630K) had worked service 945 from Bury St Edmunds and the driver had parked up and already gone home. The RL new to Thames Valley Traction (412) in July 1972 and acquired by ECOC in May 1981.
The location was a farm hardstand on Brockley Lane, the back lane leading to Higham (Upper Green) still recognisable today.
