Been on the receiving end once a few years ago - I was walking by the river and got too near their nest. No actual contact (unlike terns on the Farne Islands) although very close. Made a mental note to keep clear of that area for a while.

This pair have been menacing our courtyard every season for more than a decade! They attack their reflections in the highly reflective windows. Now all that has put them off actually striking the windows is a curtain of bird netting hanging down from the overhanging guttering, and pinned to the grass below. They nest every year in the garden.
