How on earth did he get in there? Okay, seriously: I was on my way to Foster and saw a wombat wandering on and off the road, so I stopped to shoo him into the undergrowth. He wasn't at all afraid of me - I could pat him without him flinching - but didn't look sick or injured other than a bad patch of mange on his back. So I got the thick blanket from the car (that I I keep there for this purpose), threw it over him, and wrestled him into the back of the Forester. I hoped he wouldn't make it over into the back seat as I knew he would rip the upholstery to shreds (and maybe some of me) so I sort of swerved a lot to stop him getting a good hold on the back seats. Got to Foster and took this shot while waiting at the roundabout (peak hour in Foster, ya know) and took him to the vet. They agreed he looked to be in pretty good shape. They'll treat him, and re-release him or hand him to a wildlife carer. (If you didn't already know, you can take native wildlife to any vet and they will treat him without cost to you.)
