Which is probably just as well--altho, as I've said before, "never say never"! There is concern, probably correct, that water under the arch would weaken its foundations. At one point there was even a lawsuit (ca. late 70s IIRC) to keep Lake Powell from being filled to the point the water would enter the monument, but it failed.
The water was at its then-all-time high in 1980 when we were there:

And you're right--it's quite a boat ride! ;) We came from Wahweap, but I don't remember if we'd camped on the lake before or after seeing the bridge.

Ich glaube, da haben die Navajos was dagegen. Da darf man nicht einmal unterhalb durchgehen, die ist ganz heilig die Brücke ;-))
