The Transandine Railway (Spanish: Ferrocarril Trasandino) was a 1000 mm combined rack (Abt system) and adhesion railway which operated from Mendoza in Argentina, across the Andes mountain range via the Uspallata Pass, to Santa Rosa de Los Andes in Chile, a distance of 248 km. The railway has been out of service since 1984, and has been partly dismantled. There has been talk about restoring the railway, but there is currently no indication of any restorative work underway.

Tolle Perspektive! Das mit den Bahnen ist ein Jammer, für Fracht zumindest wäre es klasse, weniger Lastwagen auf der Strasse. Die Arica-La Paz.-Linie wurde wohl instandgesetzt, aber sonst tut sich da auch noch nicht viel.

Viele fahren nicht mehr, auch der tolle Tren de las Nubes im Norden fährt nur mehr 22 km, war aber damals 2000 völlig außer Betrieb.

Mit dem bin ich mal (2009) gefahren, eine tolle Strecke! Der hatte offenbar inzwischen schon wieder einen Betreiberwechsel.
