Watermelon snow (see PiP)
Watermelon Snow: A phenomenon not very frequent so far, caused by algae. Interesting to look at - but not very beautiful for nature. Because it favours the melting of snow and glaciers.
~~~~~
Blutschnee: Ein bisher nicht sehr häufiges Phänomen, verursacht durch Algen. Interessant anzusehen - aber wenig schön für die Natur. Denn es begünstigt die Schnee- und Gletscherschmelze.
I wonder if this organism has a role to play in life chain (?)
Habe das immer (also schon früher, seit meiner zarten Jugendzeit) in die Kategorie "Saharasand" getan.
Wusste nicht, dass die Algen hier Einzug gehalten haben und auch so rote Flächen erzeugen ...
