The downside of Summer
Fire damage at Reedbed 10/11 at Newport Wetlands Nature Reserve
This is an image from April 2012 that shows the damage caused by young people riding off road motor bikes on dry sections of the reserve reed bed area A spark from a hot exhaust is thought to be the cause of the initial fire, although it may have been intentional.
Local Fire services spent a number of hours getting the fire under control and needed to monitor the area for several days after the fire was extinguished.
A warning to us all to be careful even as early in the year as we are now, a single spark can cause irreparable damage to the ecosystem we share with wildlife
