In bunt hattest du es ja schon. Und es wäre ja dasselbe in grün, wenn du das dann zweimal hochladen würdest ;-)))

You did it! Thank you for trying it.

I find it very interesting to compare the two. They each bring something different to the place.

The way you did the black and white makes the yellow stand out very bright here. That makes the focus more on those leaves and less on the stand of tree trunks. In the color version my eye quickly moves deep into the forest.

I hope you enjoyed trying this out. I really like this black and white version - though both are beautiful.

I did another version emphasising the green-Channel. It lightens and "opens" the background forest more...
it's not bad but I like this one better....

thank you very much!

No you make me curious. Do you still have the green-channel one? I don't doubt your preference, but I always struggle with changing digital images into b&w (probably because I never used filters, don't use, filters with film so I'm not used to how it all works) and so seeing the other one to compare to this one would be interesting, to me anyway.

Given the choice now (after you had added the other PiP on Laura's request) I know for sure: I like the green-channel version best :-)

I'm curious what Laura has to say... :-)

I imagine that you, Boarischa, like the one shown here better due to the slightly higher contrast.
But I think that while the bright leaves hold interest in this photo, the depth of the forest is a large part of what makes it wonderful. I therefore think that if the green-channel version had a bit more contrast, it would stand out as the best black and white version. (all in my humble opinion, of course)

I'm afraid you're right ;-)
What I don't like at all in the green-channel-version is the bright "floor" - imho it is distracting from the depth of the forest.
So I tried an old trick - combining the two versions and masking out the bright floor.
Imho it is now kind of presentable ;-))

Director's Cut ;-)))

I added a screen copy of the layers window as a PiP ;-)

maybe I should reduce opacity of the green channel version by 10 or 15 percent.... ;-))

It's really getting there! (Some photos are worth the effort.)

Certainly you can try the reduction of the green a bit, maybe also adding a bit more contrast in the middle. (But watch out, I'm a b&w contrast fiend, and not all nature photos require as much as I do.)

thank you!

Now I sit and think - did she mean fiend or did she forget an 'r' ;-)))))
but btt - I agree, more contrast is better than contrast ;-)
