Don't Go Around Tonight ...

Don't Go Around Tonight ...
Created over many hours for this week's Sunday Challenge, which has the theme of favourite song or songs.

Right from the very beginning I only really had two songs in mind: "Bad To The Bone" by George Thorogood & The Destroyers and "Bad Moon Rising" by Creedance Clearwater Revival.

Both are songs that I first encountered at the cinema as they featured on two of my favourite films upon release - many, many years ago: John Carpenter's "Christine" based on the Stephen King novel and John Landis' "An American Werewolf in London".

With no 1958 Plymouth Fury to call upon I decided to let the "Christine" idea go and concentrated instead on "Bad Moon Rising".

The final image is a composite of sorts. The building is actually a shot I took myself in Harrogate during daylight, but I've altered the perspective on it in PaintShop Pro and also 'tweaked' it in an attempt to create the illusion that it was shot at night.

As for my very own 'bad moon', the base image was obtained as a download from the NASA Scientific Visualization Studio and you'll find a copy of this in the Notes. You can find out more about this organisation and check out further images by following the link below:

The skull element was based around work produced by Marc Gosselin on DeviantArt and again you'll find a copy of the original unaltered image in the Notes. You can see more of Marc's work by following the link below:

Bringing the two images together that form the 'bad moon' in a convincing and I hope seamless way was a bit fiddly, but I'm pleased with the final result.

I have to say I also found the merging of my 'bad moon' and the church to the background shot of the night sky rather difficult too as I've not worked much with masks in the past.

However, once again I'm fairly happy with the end result and thanks for the starry night sky must go to a Wiki user called chensiyuan who took this shot, which is entitled "Vermont_night_sky_stargazing". You can find more of their images by following the link below:

You can listen to "Bad Moon Rising" via the MP3 I've inserted above or, if you also want to read the lyrics to the song then follow the link below:

Apparently, it "looks amazing on black" ... so why not hit z and see if you agree with the lovely Karen ... that's if you're brave enough!
