VW Beetle - CAB 720 - Details Unknown

VW Beetle - CAB 720 - Details Unknown
Couldn't get as much information on this one as I would have likedas it's not lised with the DVLA.

However, I'm tagging it as being a Fifties version due to it having the Wolfsburg emblem at the tip of the front of the bonnet. This was a complex fabrication and supposedly on subsequent models the emblem was deleted.

, have particularly liked this photo

They were probably stolen by the 1000's. The emblems didn't enjoy a long life on the car if there were kids of a particular age around. The clip that held it on the chrome strip was a friction-fit only so it was easily removed. Once off, those same clips could be bent to fashion a large ring out of the emblem. The large rear window and the presence of fender mounted signal lights points to at least 1958.

Thanks Ian. Interesting what you say about the badges being turned into rings. I seem to remember the Beastie Boys starting a similar craze in the Eighties for wearing the VW badge as a necklace.

Signals on top of the fenders (as opposed to lower pointed pods on '57-'58) began in 1959 for U.S. models and I believe 1960 for European models.
Wolfsburg crest was used until 1962. : ]
I don't understand the trend to lower them so much and put Porsche wheels on them.
It makes the rear wheels squat inward due to the swing axle and good luck going over speed bumps, railroad tracks, etc.
I think they look best at normal ride height just as the factory made them. : )

Really sounding like it's a Sixties Bug then! As for the lowering, the camber on the rear end on this one is decidedly odd!

I also think, it's a sixties model. Pre-60 Bugs (in .de we use to call them Käfer, what translates to bug, or beetle ;-) ) had a semaphore direction indicator, what this particular car obviously is lacking.
