1974 Volkswagen Type 181 - VEF 256M
Time to start another album me thinks, this time for the Ripon Spring Classic in 2012.

First on show is what was quite possibly the funkiest and wildest vehicle on display, this Type 181 from 1974.

That model was marketed here as the "Thing" One of the guys in the class ahead of me in school drove a Jeepster and the guys would always refer to it as the "Thing" ... which would often make his face as red as his hair ... and he had very red hair! :-) He ended up rolling his Jeepster on an icy bridge and that ended the fun for his tormentors. He survived his roll in the Jeepster though and I suspect he's off writing computer programs somewhere. :-)

Great story Norm and that's a pretty cool link you've posted too. The only thing that lets the owner of the account down is that he doesn't appear to have any Scirocco stuff on it concentrating instead on just the air-cooled side of VW. :(
