in the streets of Whitianga According to Māori legend, the Polynesian navigator and explorer Kupe landed in the Whitianga area ,which gave the entrance to the natural harbour of Whitianga Harbour the name Whitianga-a-Kupe. In the language of Māori "whitianga" means passage or ford. For decades Whitianga was the port city for the export of wood to numerous countries, e.g. Norway, France or Italy. It used to be a centre for the processing of flax, wood from kauri trees, boat building, mining and the extraction of rubber.

a journey into the jungle and to very special trees,on the 309 road 309 Road a 22 km long gravel road between Coromandel and Whitianga. It winds from Coromandel, on the west side of the Coromandel Peninsula, over the mountains to Whitianga, on the east side. the legend says the road got its name: because it used to take 309 curves on the road, or because horse-drawn carriages used to take 309 minutes to drive on them

The Catedral Cove Cathedral Cove is a bay in the reserve Te Whanganui-A-Hei It is famous for the cathedral cave. It connects the bays of Mare's Leg Cove and Cathedral Cove like a tunnel. This natural tunnel and the white sandy beach create a South Sea feeling. at low tide you can walk through the tunnel well at high tide, caution is required
