The church of San Lorenzo is an extraordinary central building of Baroque architecture, built according to the plans of the Theatine Father Guarino Guarini, who was the learned philosopher, mathematician and architect between 1667 and 1680.
The church was consecrated in 1680, but the construction of the façade, the choir and the interior fittings dragged on until the 18th century.
The Theatine convent was dissolved in 1802.
