What We Did Last Sunday

What We Did Last Sunday
A Vintage Photos Theme Park photo for the theme of crossed arms.

A real photo postcard postmarked in Groton, South Dakota, on August 23, 1909, and addressed to "Mrs. Lottie Larson, [Westley?], [Wis.?]."

Handwritten message: "This Is what we did last Sunday. What do you think of it? Frank."

For another photo with crossed arms, see Girls and Women on a Rustic Bridge.

I can only wonder what Mrs. Larson thought when she opened the mailbox to find that photograph. Was she amused? Shocked? Mortified? It's a terrific photo. White shirts, turned-up collars, fedoras, crossed arms, and steely stares. Interestingly, it reminds me of photos of my grandfather and his cousins having fun striking similar poses for the camera in 1904.

Thanks, Rick! I spent some time wondering what exactly it was that they did on Sunday. It makes sense that they were acting up a bit by being somewhat disheveled and defiant as they posed (by 1904 standards, at least).
