Gasteruption jaculator

Gasteruption jaculator
A fine specimen of Gasteruption jaculator that was having a rest on this decaying tree trunk in my garden. It had been searching the trunk for suitable hosts in which to deposit its eggs. Shrewsbury, Shropshire, July 2020.

Fascinating creature. I got a good look at one recently and it appeared to egg lay in a crack in a stone wall so must have found a host

Thank you Colin, they are fascinating for sure, watching the egg laying sequence is pretty amazing, not only how theh finc their host bug the way they use their ovipositor to deposit the egg in exactly the right place, sight unseen.
