This island of Cape Verde archipelago is very close to the African desert coast.
However, there are other verdant islands, Edna
They justify a visit and the people are very kind.
Cape Verde was a Portuguese colony

I like the distinct levels in this image...........and the colour palette. The tree shows clearly which direction the prevailing wind blows and the rocky and sparse landscape shows the effect of the wind.
