Notation: I am not sure what kind of a "buffet" this is. It looks like this is a long bar likely used to prepare alcoholic beverages to patrons - not by a behind-the-bar bartender, but by several individuals who would access the libations in the cupboards, pour them into one of a variety of glasses on the counter and ring up bills at the cash registers.

There is a pail-like container seen on the floor, behind the left-hand chair. could it be a spittoon?

Would they have had spittoons in such a fine hotel??? It's hard to see what the alternative would be ... I was thinking maybe it was a pipe coming up from below but that wouldn't make any sense. Great card -- never seen it before. The 109xxx Valentines are generally pretty rare, it seems to me.
