Sousaphon: Abwandlung des Helikons mit etwas größerem und nach vorn gebogenem Schalltrichter; meist als zweiteiliges Instrument verwendet (Maschine + Korpus/Trichter). Die Urform des Sousaphon, mit nach oben zeigendem Trichter, wurde durch John Philip Sousa für die Brass- und Bigbands des amerikanischen Militärs angeregt, da Sousa den Bass klanglich besser verteilen wollte
