Stykkishólmur church

Stykkishólmur church at dawn. The church overlooks Breiðafjörður and can be seen from afar. It was designed by architect Jón Haraldsson and consecrated in 1990.

Thanks a lot, Amelia! Quite ingenious architecture, isn't it? Scandinavians are good at that. Btw, there is a really spectacular new cathedral in Alta (Finnmark), only opened in 2013. Would love to visit one day.

I like Scandinavian architecture. This church reminds me of the ones I saw in Akurey (not sure about the spelling) and Reykjavik . It looks great against a dawn northen sky.

Die sind alle aus der Nachkriegszeit, die Eismeerkathedrale in Tromsö ist z.B. aus den 60ern.
Die neueste ist die Nordlichtkathedrale in Alta von 2013: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nordlichtkathedrale

Beim Anblick solcher Architektur schläft mein Herz höher, Gudrun!
"Solche modernen Kirchen sieht man auch in Skandinavien" - das war auch sofort mein Gedanke, aber auch in Ungarn kann man sehr extravagante Bauwerke entdecken.
Wunderschön die dramatische Beleuchtung!

Ich habe erst im Herbst erfahren, dass der Architekt stinksauer war wegen des bunten Fensters dort, und keinen Fuss mehr in die Kirche gesetzt hat. Er hatte eine ganz schlichte Glaswand vorgesehen, die das Licht durchlassen sollte.
