Broke down heading to the desert once again! Got a rental in Bakersfield to keep the fun moving and made camp at this sweet spot about 12 miles SW of Trona, CA on the high end of the Searles Valley.

Heading SW back to Bakersfield, came across this curious fake ghost town on Searles Cutoff Road near HWY 395.

It's like a toy movie set someone built, possibly as a hopefull tourist attraction.

And yep, it's for sale.

We spotted what looked like a full blown town up on a ridge and detoured south on HWY 395 to check it out.

Indeed, it's a full blown living ghost town, Randsburg!

Old idle downtown with residents living in the back roads. Sheds, shacks, mining stuff aplenty. We could have spent all day here but it was a mere detour.

Randsburg, what a score, see you later!

Heading back we chased another mirage off 395. This one turned out not to be a ghost town but a seedy trailer encampment that said keep out residents only, please sign in with host. You pay a host to park your trailer in the desert? I guess it's not BLM land.

Back on track west on Garlock road from HWY 395, this is the Goler Heights mining camp site.
