Poinsettia Mining Camp, NV, July 2009
Poinsettia 01
Went to meet Western Lore desert enthusiast folks who were having a wedding ceremory at an isolated mining camp site at Poinsettia, NV. Got a late start and camped at Pine Grove, NV ghost town on the way.
Poinsettia 02
This was my first solo desert trek without Roxanne. Just pitched it, and wandered around the feral roads.
Poinsettia 03
Followed the feral road until it became a wash and walked the wash.
Poinsettia 04
Found a mining claim rolled up in a tube.
Poinsettia 05
I guess mining claims are still active here in Pine Grove and Humboldt-Toyabe National Forest.
Poinsettia 06
Stumbled upon the tree-on-a-tailing icon at the main road. Shows how old the tailings are for a tree to take.
Poinsettia 07
Sat on the hill and drank my big beer. Camping solo is even more serene, I like it.
Poinsettia 09
Went north to Yerington and then Hwy Alt 95 east into new turf.
Poinsettia 10
Checked out Schurz, NV. Not a ghost town, but about every building on the highway is boarded up except this working post office.
Poinsettia 12
Old Walker reservation school buildings boarded up.
Poinsettia 15
Went north on Hwy 95 towards Fallon, NV.
Poinsettia 16
These are the Rawhide Flats. You could conceivably drive 30+ miles east across them to my destination, but conditions a complete unknown.
Poinsettia 17
East from Fallon on Hwy 50 passing this Grimes Point ghost town site (historic with a mid-century gas station).
Poinsettia 18
Then across the Salt Wells Basin.
