Bénévent-l'Abbaye

Corrèze (19), Creuse (23), Haute-Vienne (87) = Limousin

All photos just have in common, that they were taken in the Limousin, consisting out of the départements Corrèze (19), Creuse (23) und Haute-Vienne (87). Today part of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Some photos were taken, when I followed the Via Lemovicensis. I had started that "chemin" in 2006 in Vezelay.

.....named the abbey after the italian town, from where the relics of Saint-Barthélémy had been moved to here. This made it easier for the relics, to adapt to the new home. A really medieval idea!...

A capital, inside the former abbey church. The "context" could not be reconstructed. It is probably older than the church. The weathered carving seems not very skilled. I could not "translate" the scene. Maybe Abraham..

..Saint Leonard has so many duties. He is patron saint for farmers, horses, stable-hands, blacksmiths, fruit-merchants and even women in childbed! But over all he is the patron saint for prisoners, that is why his coat of arms shows silvern handcuffs. Did I mention, that he helps against mental and veneral deseases?.... His relics are in this tomb..
