Almería - Alcazaba

Almería - Alcazaba
Almería was founded in 955 by Abd ar-Rahman III. as a main port of his empire. Under Moorish rule, the city experienced prosperity through the production and export of silk fabrics. After a temporary conquest by King Alfonso VII of Castile-León in 1147, Almería was again under Moorish control from 1157. In 1489 "Los Reyes Católicos" Ferdinand and Isabel conquered the city. Already three years later Almería became a bishop's see with the founding of the diocese. The 16th century was a century of natural disasters for Almería; It suffered at least four major earthquakes (1512, 1522, 1529, 1550).
Alcazaba

The Alcazaba, which towers over the Szadt, was built in the 10th century under the Caliph Abd ar-Rahman III. built. The Alcazaba was used by Muslim governors until the 15th century. In 1522 the palace complex was destroyed by an earthquake and only partially replaced by new buildings.
