El Campillo - San Pedro de la Nave

El Campillo - San Pedro de la Nave
The construction of the Visigothic church of San Pedro de la Nave dates back to the end of the 7th and beginning of the 8th century. It may have been built between 680 and 711, in the years before the Muslim conquest. It was originally located on the banks of the Esla River, but when the Ricobayo reservoir was built, it was submerged in its waters, so it was decided to move it stone by stone to its current location. This work was carried out between 1930 and 1932.

This little church is known for its extraordinary Visigothic capitals, but unfortunately, it was locked.

The soft stones from which the church was built are dotted with graffiti. People must have had the time to carve them in.
