Halle - Moritzburg

Halle - Moritzburg
The Moritzburg is a ruined castle that has been reconstructed as a museum. In 1484 the foundation stone was laid for what later became the residence of the archbishops of Magdeburg. It was built in the late Gothic style and now houses an art museum.

1484 is one year before we, in the UK, traditionally close the Middle Ages and usher in the Modern Era (The Battle of Bosworth bringing in the Tudor dynasty). In Europe that change is traditionally seen as 1453 , the Fall of Constantinople to the Ottomans. In Germany, this late Gothic style still seems to reside in the Middle Ages so I guess the change was gradual and piecemeal and selective in regions experiencing it first. But of course no one at the time knew any such thing. Just as we don't, even though we live through times that change at a frightening pace (imho!). mylife doesn't seem to have changed much since the 1980s - then I look at my smartphone and I type this on my laptop, etc, etc!
