Attendorn - St. Johanes Baptist
Attendorn, located in the south of the hilly Sauerland region, was an (indirect) member of the Hanseatic League ("Hanse") represented at the great assemblies by the town of Soest. But - since 2012 - it is "Hansestadt Attendorn".
St. Johannes Baptist (aka "Sauerländer Dom") is the parish church of Attendorn. During excavations in the 1970a, remains three predecessing churches could be found. The massive tower of the church dates to the early 13th century. Since 1634 it has a Baroque top. The Gothic nave was erected in the second half of the 14th century.
