Bad Münstereifel - Rathaus
In 720 Charlemagne´s great grandmother Bertrada had founded the Prüm Abbey, from where in 830 the Benedictine monastery "Novum Monasterium" was founded here.
The abbey, owning the relics of Chrysanthus und Daria, developed into a pilgrimage destination and all around a settlemt grew. Zwentibold, illegitime son of Emperor Arnulf and King of Lotharingia, granted the abbey a minting privilege in 898.
The town hall was erected in two steps. The oldest part dates to the 14th century, but it got enlarged and got finally completed in 1551.
