Pescadoires - Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens

Pescadoires - Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens
In medieval times Pescadoires was a probably thriving village. The name of the place made clear, who lived here: fishermen. In the 19th century the industrialisation plus the phylloxera epidemic, that destroyed most of the vineyards in the Cahors area, led to a rural exodus. So the population today is only about 150.

In the center of the village is the church "Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens" ("Saint Peter in Chains"). The church, dating back to the 11th/12th century, is the only still existing building of a priory, depending from the Benedictine abbey Saint-Pierre in Moissac. Obviously the church was larger once. The choir got lost over the centuries and got replaced by a square sacristy.
