Friday, a lovely morning, sunny but cold. A very young Goldfinch turned up today, obviously on his/her first few days of fending for his/herself.

Wednesday, and what a foul morning, torrential rain until lunchtime so a very short walk for the dogs and I. Mind you they didn't want to stay out for long as it was very miserable in the forest. Even this Boar was utterly uninterested and as soon as he/she saw me ran off into the trees to hide.

Mute Swan on one of the Cannop Ponds, which are a couple of miles north from us, though they are in the same valley through which runs the Cannop brook. Cannop Brook then becomes the River Lyd somewhere near our village of Whitecroft (no one is sure exactly where), and it then joins the River Severn at Lydney. I love Swans and used to look after some in Staffordshire, and have sorely missed seeing them since we moved to the forest. Consequently I was overjoyed to see this breeding pair and their Cygnets.
