7. The Slowing
for Sarah White

Everywhere I search, there is a slowing.
Tides take weeks to recede; the bird-things
want an hour to lift their wings. I saw
something like a stingray skim the sand,
a shadow that scarcely moved, scouring
infinitesimally, from one beach-end
to the other. My own heart almost neglects
to beat; a breath elongates into days,
as the great orbs wax and wane. Now
there is time to see all things as they
deserve to be seen, to see miracles in
the suns’ glints, to find white glories in
the rising moons. Bless this long, cool,
endless slowing everywhere I search.
