4. The Moons Reflected
for Mike Parker and Chris Taylor

And in this night, my island
slopes off into blackness, like
the edge of everything.

The moon-orbs spill
bedazzlement across a strand
I dare not smirch with my

strange human spoor, so
I walk without touching sand,
throwing hands out for balance,

and the smooth air, thick
as syrup, buoys me upward
‘til I swim, breathless, looking

down, and far below,
my own shadow looms,
lustrous as obsidian,

and in this night, my island
slopes off into blackness, like
the edge of everything.
