Folder: SOME OF THE ANIMALS IN OUR LIVES
Harry, the chair-dog....
This is part of the story of a very special dog.
Harry was a rescue - he was returned to the kennels where we found him because he had trashed the house - if chewing a small dried flower arrangement and moving his bed counts - after being left on his own for the evening after only two days......he was just about 13 months when he came to us, with just his pedigree, his bed, lead and collar.
One aspect of his behaviour was that he always wanted to be involved. From putting rubbish in a bin, or carrying shopping - even to finding the TV remote and bringing it to you, Harry was always helping - or trying to!
He celebrated his 13th birthday on the 19th February 2011. That makes him 91 in human years! (13 x 7)
Harry is now more than a little semi-retired, but he continues to enjoy his visits to the workshop. One of the things he still likes to do is meet 'n' greet our visitors. Including *his* Dutch clients...the two gentlemen that bought the Pullman Armchair frames.
11th May 2011 - Harry was taken ill this afternoon, and after a trip to the V-E-T's we will have to wait and see.
Update: he has made a remarkable recovery over the last 48 hours. I just wish humans could do as well after suspected strokes / heart attacks. We were very worried by what appeared to be another attack on the afternoon of 26th June, but he had virtually completely recovered in a couple of days..... Further Update; Harry has been quite poorly for a few days, and the treatment had tried to put him off his rations. But he had a visitor at the weekend, and has perked up a lot; he seems much more like his normal self today (5th Oct 2011). The improvement has not lasted, and he seems to be going downhill physically, although mentally he is very much still on the ball.
It is with very great regret that I have to inform you that Harry, our chair-dog, has left for the rainbow bridge on 26th October 2011. After a long bout with arthritis, and a chest infection following his stroke (which was way back in May 2011) It was finally clear that, as the vets explained, there was nothing more that they could do; so the heartwrenching decision, in truth the only one, that could be made, and he was given rest and peace to prevent his discomfort becoming obvious suffering.
He has been buried, overlooking his favourite view, in a coffin built in his workshop.
He was a remarkably intelligent dog, one who made a lasting impression on all who knew him, and we will all miss him. He really was a very special dog to all of us.
There are a few more images to post, some from earlier times - others from his twilight years. They will appear shortly, as some are from our pre-digital era and will need to be scanned. I think that I have got most of these....

My two dogs are rescue and are nearly 13 years of age but are constant companions, one male and one female. The male does not like boating or water, the female however is either on it or in it.
They are slowing down now but I will miss them when the time comes ! In life you cannot beat having a dog.
