Around the marina in Whitehaven there are a number of these distinctive seats, each with a dated historical snippet set into the flukes.
They are remarkably popular - and the back is quite comfortable, too - especially with dog-walkers and others out for a perambulation around the marina / harbour.

That got "moved on" about half an hour later - into the proper area.
[I think it is part of the travelling fair that arrived for the May Day holiday weekend]
