Somewhat rusty remains of a crane, probably dates from WW1 or WW2. Would have been used for unloading shells or other stores.
There is also a short section of track [similar gauge to the funicular].
It looks like modern concrete has been added to level some areas of the pier surface, probably to make embarking and disembarking from the ferries somewhat easier. Quite a significant drop at low tide and there are a couple of other jetties nearby.
