Shells collected regularly to determine consumption - as s/he maybe removing hazel nuts to eat elsewhere, this may be only an approximation
Also found some shredded pine cones.

Current estimate is six hazel nuts per visit eaten on the feeder, with three or four visits per day.

je suis content de voir que vous avez encore des écureuils roux en Angleterre. (On m'avait dit qu'il n'y en avait plus, qu'ils étaient tous gris) Il faut qu'ils résistent, comme les ukréniens. (Je sais, c'est facile à dire mais beaucoup plus difficile à faire)

The "Reds" are in a small number of enclaves, mostly in the Northern parts of the UK.
Conservationists give the red, native, squirrel a helping hand in various ways - including controlling the numbers of the invasive grey squirrels in the areas where the two are competing.
One of the main problems is that the grey squirrel usually carries a highly transmissible disease that is usually fatal to the native reds.
