Stern, note the leaf shaped blades of the rowing oars and the heavy steering oar.

This diorama depicts the beaching of a typical Viking longship by her crew.
The vessel displayed is Odin's Raven, a 2/3 scale replica of the Gokstad ship. She sailed from Trondheim, Norway to Peel, arriving on the 5th July 1979. The project to build an sail her was part of the 1979 Manx Millenium Celebrations [There were a few concessions with the use of some modern materials, plus the inclusion of a safety engine]

For info ; Odin's Ravens were Huginn and Muninn, who flew all over the world & reported their observations to the Old Norse deity.

Interestingly, the techniques and strength needed for pulling an early RNLI lifeboat like the "William Riley" are all in the upper body [arms, shoulders and back]. Rowing a Viking longship would have used exactly the same methodology.
