olb - RNLI Memorial
This is the memorial to RNLI crew members who lost their lives "on service" attempting to save others. More than 600 names are inscribed on the plinth, some from before 1824, when the RNLI was founded. Amongst the last names are the crew of the Penlee Lifeboat "Solomon Browne", lost just before Christmas 1981.
"William Riley" attended the ceremony to unveil the memorial to represent the "old" pre-motor lifeboats - modern motor lifeboats were represented by a "Tamar" class 'boat.
note - image from a friend in the RNLI (even my best attempt wasn't properly focused)
