Gorillas

Mary 2 (born May 17, 2007) is climbing on the rope-grid.

This photo from June 2008 shows N'Dowe nearly a month after his return to Stuttgart. His sufferings are still visible, but he looks way better than on his arrival.

This is Kibo, the silverback of the gorilla family at Wilhelma (Stuttgart, germany). He was born in 1990 and came to Stuttgart about seven years ago, with hardly any trace of silver in his dark fur. In Stuttgart, he met five grown-up females between 10 and 40 years. He grew into the leader's position rather fast, and in 2003/4, three of the ladies gave birth to a child. Kibo is a friendly person and a wonderful father. Watching him play with his children is great fun - just imagine a 150+kg gorilla running away from a three year old... :-) He knows me and my husband quite well now; once or twice he discovered my husband while I was still out of his sight, and he actually looked around for me! When he finally saw me, he smiled and returned to his normal occupation...

Zumindest bin ich mir ziemlich sicher, daß das Kiri ist... Ganz sicher bin ich, daß das Plüschtier, auf dem er sitzt, von mir stammt. :-D Ich hatte im Januar einige zu den Affen gebracht und war sehr überrascht, jetzt im August noch eins davon zu sehen. Daß es mehr als ein halbes Jahr bei den Gorillakindern überlebt hat, spricht sehr für die Qualität. ;-)

Dieses Bild ist vielleicht nicht das beste, aber es bedeutet mir viel, weil N'Dowe an diesem Tag das erste Mal seit seiner Rückkehr aus Frankreich mit mir herumgealbert hat. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This may not be the best of my photos, but it means so much to me - on this day, N'Dowe fooled around with me for the first time since he came back from France.

Das Bild ist durch Glas gemacht. Es wird leider durch Reflexionen am Schmutz auf der Scheibe beeinträchtigt, aber ich finde Makouas Gesicht trotzdem wunderschön.

Ich bin mir nicht mehr sicher, wer das ist - Kissa oder Makoua... Auf jeden Fall finde ich es faszinierend, wie sie zwei Hände und einen Fuß benutzt, um einen Stock abzuknabbern. :-) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I am not sure whether I caught Kissa or Makoua. Anyway, I enjoyed the way she uses two hands and one foot to gnaw on a stick. :-)

Wenn man die ganze Undi sehen könnte, sähe das so aus: Sie liegt auf dem Rücken, ein Bein nach oben gestreckt, und den Fuß hält sie mit einer Hand fest.

Kibo frühstückt, und zwar Zwiebel und Fenchel(?). Und nicht irgendwo im Käfig - nein, er hat sein Essen geschnappt und hat sich so dicht wie möglich neben mich an die Scheibe gesetzt, als ob er mir was abgeben wollte. :-D Und trotz genüßlichen Futterns guckt er genau, was ich treibe... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Kibo at breakfast - he eats onions and fennel.
