What is true is that science offers powerful Tools for deepening human understanding of the interconnectedness of all life, although not all scientists see or avow this goal. With this much said about actual heterogeneous motivations among scientists, it is not an idle hope that in good hands scientific knowledge can enhance wholesome, ethical goals, and lead to action that benefits all sentient beings and the environment. The Dalai Lama summarized these ideas in his 1989 Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech:

“With ever-growing impact on our lives, religion and spirituality have a greater role to play reminding us of our humanity. There is no contradiction between the two. Each gives us valuable insight into the other. Both Science and teaching of the Buddha tell us of the fundamental unity of all things. This understanding is crucial if we are to take positive and decisive action on the pressing global concern with the environment. - Page 65

The Tibetan Dalai Lamas are members of the Gelug-pa school. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gelug#:~:text=The%20Gelug%20school%20is%20alternatively,first%20monastery%20established%20by%20Tsongkhapa. “
Dalai” is a Mongol word meaning ‘ocean’ (of wisdom), a title conferred by the Mongol ruler Altan Khan in the 16th century. The office of Dalai Lama encompasses both the religious and temporal domains. Tibet was ruled by a series of Dalai Lamas down to the moder tines, when the present incumbent -- the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gayto -- was forced to flee the country in 1959 as a result of Chinese invasion in 1950. Since that time he has resided in Dharmasala, in north-west India. . . . Page 95
