In the first kind of surfeit we must also note that all overindulgences have the same consequences and that some things are much more likely to produce long-standing aversions than others. A hang-over of good wine or beer is blamed less on the wine or beer than on our own failure to adhere to norms of moderation and health. When we get sick on beer or wine we experience nausea and self-disgust, but the sense of contamination has a very short half-life.
