Our preoccupation with time is so complete that the word “time” has become the most popular noun in the English Language. In fact, time-related words occupy three of the top ten spots. A search on Yahoo.com for “time” results in more than 7 million and less than a billion hits for ‘sex’. Time-related words are also woven into works of art that express out complicated relationship with time or seek to inculcate the audience with socially sanctioned attitudes toward time. ……. Time is also a consistent theme in song and literature. Some artists lament its passing, while others lament that it is not passing more quickly. Time even influenced postmodern artists such as Picasso, Barque, and Dali. Picasso and Barque’s cubist style, for instance, depicts people and the objects as they exist from all perspectives simultaneously, while Salvador Dali’s ‘Persistence of Memory’ depicts the malleability and relativity of time.

Today we look further into the future than ever before. we need to, for our actions today will affect the world that our descendents will inherit millennia from now. nuclear waste, nuclear winter, the nuclear war all have the potential to end our future completely, global warming is a proved scientific reality. unless all nations immediately begin to reduce carbon emissions and induce fundamental changes in energy conservation and waste reduction, global catastrophes await us in the near future. ~ Page 45
