A real winter scene as Polish Railways 2-6-2 Ol49-23 gets up steam for its imminent departure from Poznan station on the 08.10 back to Wolsztyn. I had driven it on the 04.16 commuter train from Wolsztyn.

This level crossing sign was very apt as we were being pulled by a steam engine! Taken from the brakevan of the Appleby Frodingham Railway Preservation Society rail tour around the British Steel steelworks complex at Scunthorpe.

Great Central Railway Loughborough Leicestershire 21st November 2020

There are no trains running at the GCR but essential work continues inside the shed. There were 2 of us in today helping Tom with the overhaul of Southern N15 4-6-0 30777 Sir Lamiel. The tender is now on road 3 and is being stripped before lifting to allow play in the axleboxes to be corrected. The tender water gauge is being replaced but after removing some of the bolts others proved impossible to free and in the end were cut out, as seen here.

Epping & Ongar Railway Ongar Essex 4th August 2019

Metropolitan Railway 0-4-4T tank number 1 moves slowly up to the water crane at the platform end at Ongar station to fill its tanks before running round its train and returning to North Weald. A splendid engine behind a simple fence! HFF and have a great weekend.

A belated Christmas scene now we are back to uploading images again! If you're not keen on tinsel-bedecked locos you are not going to like BR Standard 9F 2-10-0 92214 lit up like this for the Winter Wonderlights trains! I think it looks brilliant and has certainly appealed to the public - every train to Christmas was fully booked. The GCR needs every penny that they bring in after such a debilitating year.

The setting sun has highlighted the Midland Railway station frontage but not penetrated the depths of the cutting. This shot was taken from the New Walk overbridge. HFF to everyone.
