Ollantaytambo Cuszco Peru 1980

Ollantaytambo Cuszco Peru 1980
Enafer Peru (Empresa Nacional de Ferrocarriles del Perú) 914mm gauge diesel 485, Alco, MLW DL535B built in 1963, waiting at a crossing loop in the Andes Mountains, probably Ollantaytambo.

We were en route between Cusco and Machu Picchu on this grey day.

They were the same trains in 1981. I hope it's more modern now.

Probably more modern but less interesting.
There was a steam-hauled train in the station at Cusco in 1980 & I was very disappointed when I realised it wasn't ours...

Trains (and stations) have indeed changed, but not cities or landscapes...

We went to Ollantaytambo but not to Machu Picchu because of a tight budget (inflation of over 200%!). :-(((((((

True. It looks much more built up and touristic in 2019 than it was in 1980-81. That's a great shame you couldn't go all the way. I would say that Machu Picchu is one of the most impressive place I've visited
