Tyseley Birmingham England 4th May 1969

Tyseley Birmingham England 4th May 1969
In honour of Flying Scotsman's rebirth (after a ridiculous £4.2 million rebuild & 10 years of waiting) this is one I took earlier.

This was one of the early Open Days - the second one in fact, the first was in October 1968 - at the Great Western Railway shed at Tyseley. Flying Scotsman arrives from the main line with a special train.

Very well taken, Pete.
It is good that we have it to see (occasionally), but since 1964 I believe it has been essentially a replica of the original Scotsman using components from many other A3 locos. At least here, 4472 is not carrying German blinkers ;-)

Cheers Neil. Even before that it would have swopped boilers with other A3s! Yes, it looks a bit strange today in wartime black and German smoke deflectors doesn't it??

Thanks Ian. At least FS will be in authentic livery. Wartime black with German deflectors never looked right!
